Hi folks! Welcome back to Sunday Sundries, where I yammer a bit about whatever is on my mind.
Today, I want to introduce you to Clawde.
As I've said before, I'm not a fan of the dnd system (or the games). I struggle with it for various reasons. But occasionally I can be coaxed into it, and that's what happened here. A homebrew based on 3.5, I think. One GM, me, Cuddles, and another friend.
When it comes to making characters, I start with who I want to be and build stats etc around that. In this one, Cuddles was going to be a Queen vampire—Nepthys—recently resurrected, and there would be a focus on rebuilding her city. And, because we work well together, whether that’s being friends or antagonists, I thought it'd be fun to be one of her people.
Well, I say people…
What I actually created was kind of a wereperson. I was, in fact, a lion, but I could turn into something about 90% human.
I'd been held captive and used as entertainment by people (who didn't know and just thought I was a werelion) and rescued by Nepthys. She treated me well, and I was devoted to her.
And yes I called myself Clawde because I will never not make a pun if one is available!
In lion form I was big, scary if I wanted to be, but mostly just a giant cat who wanted love.
In human form—this not being my default form, and having been in a cage most of my life—I was awkward as fuck. I still had claws and sharp teeth. I could talk, but it was a struggle and sentences were still usually beyond me. If I had strong emotion I tended to lose my shit. I was trying to learn human things like reading and not doing so well. But I did love drawing, so I often expressed myself that way, and Nepthys would tell me how good they were and hang them on the wall.
My queen had infinite patience—for me, anyway.
Clawde was so loveable. And when I was called to meet someone who was clearly some sort of goddess, and on arriving found her and a swaddled thing that was not so much an infant and more a black expanse of nothing.
Clawde being Clawde, named the swaddled thing ‘Void Baby’ and enjoyed playing with it and giving it cuddles.
The game didn't keep going too far because life got in the way, but Clawde is one of the absolute favourite ttrpg characters I've ever created.
Want more ttrpg character stories? Let me know! I bet I can get Cuddles to join me in telling some stories, as well.
What about you, reader? Tell me about a ttrpg character you made and loved!
And please, do share and subscribe! I’m 1 person away from 100, and I want to be able to do the special things for you all!!
Til next time.
This is a totally lovely story and I’m glad I circled back to read it. 💞💕🦁
